2 killed Sunday in Route 8 crash

Two people were killed in the Sunday evening crash along Route 8 in Butler Township, the Butler County Coroner’s Office confirmed Monday, July 27.

The identities of the two people who died have not yet been released, and a crash report was not yet available Monday morning from Butler Township police.

The crash was reported at 6:50 p.m. in the area of 170 Pittsburgh Road near West Central Equipment, according to Butler County Emergency Services dispatch records. Three medical helicopters were called to the scene for three or four injuries including one death.

One of those injured was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, according to dispatch reports.

The crash appeared to involve two vehicles, including a white SUV and a gray vehicle, both of which suffered heavy front-end damage and appeared to crash in a “T-bone” position. The air bags in the SUV were fully deployed.

Debris was spread out over a wide area of from near the Tesla’s Ramada Inn by Wyndham to West Central Equipment.

Responding emergency crews included Butler and Butler Township police and fire units, Butler Ambulance Service and STAT MedEvac.
