Aloysius J. 'Al' Smythe
Aloysius J. "Al" Smythe Jr., 65, of Freeport Road, Butler, died unexpectedly early Saturday morning at his home.
He was born in Pittsburgh, May 11, 1945, a son of the late Aloysius J. Sr. and Evelyn McGuire Smythe.
Al was employed by MSA in Cranberry Woods as a board technician. Before that, he had worked for more than 30 years for the Fujitsu Communication Corp., which formerly had been GTE, in Pittsburgh.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Herman and was a U.S. Navy veteran who served eight years during the Vietnam War.
He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and enjoyed bicycling.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Chajka Smythe, who he married Sept. 29, 1973; two sons, Bryan Smythe of San Diego and Kevin Smythe of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Lou Tristani and Sue Hart, both of Valencia; and also numerous nieces and nephews.
<B>SMYTHE </B>— Friends of Aloysius J. "Al" Smythe Jr., who died Saturday, June 12, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Herman. The Rev. Mark Carter, O.F.M. Cap., will officiate.
