Kim Altmire passed away unexpectedly in a tragic accident at her home on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

Kim was born Dec. 27, 1961, in Butler, to Eugene B. and Shirley M. Gatty, who welcomed her into heaven with open arms.

Kim is survived by her soulmate of 47 years, Dave Altmire; two sons, Tyler and Alex Altmire of Butler; and her sister, Cyndi (Gatty) Gibson, of Milford, Ohio. She is also survived by her stepmother, Ann Gatty; and two stepbrothers, Adam and Evan Kowalski, also of Butler. She is also survived by Tori Dieckmann, fiancée to Alex; and Shannon Keys, longtime girlfriend of Tyler; as well as Todd Gibson, brother-in-law. Kim will also be deeply missed by Dave’s parents, Peggy and Jerry; his siblings, Lisa, Denny and Jesse; her beloved pups, Ellie and Waldo; and friends and colleagues too plentiful to count.

Kim was a graduate of Slippery Rock University where she earned her BSN on May 11, 1991. Her career in nursing spanned 44 years at Grove City Hospital, Shadyside Hospital, and for the past 20 years, at Butler Hospital where she was the director of surgical services. Kim spent her career and life serving and caring for others. She was the rock of the family and the hospital and will be greatly missed by her family, co-workers and friends.

Dave was the only love of her life and they married in Butler on July 30, 1988. In 2023, they celebrated 35 years of marriage by renewing their wedding vows in Hawaii and had just returned from Honduras on their fourth mission trip where she served as director of missions at First Church.

Kim was an adventurous soul, with some of her endeavors including scuba diving, skydiving, snowmobiling, skiing and her recent accomplishment of reaching Mount Everest base camp with her son, Alex. She had plans to climb Machu Picchu this fall with her family and colleagues.

She was a doer, a fixer, a giver and a lover. She was the most incredible mom to her two sons. She was their number one fan in anything they did and always said how proud she was of the men they have become. She welcomed Tori and Shannon into the family and loved them like her own. She was the best role model, mentor, leader and absolute ray of sunshine to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was her sister, Cyndi’s, best friend, and her passing has left a hole in her heart and the hearts of so many.

The family wants to thank the many hospital co-workers, church family and many friends for the warmth and love extended over the past days. To say that Kim will be missed by all is an understatement.

ALTMIRE — Visitation for Kimberly Sue Altmire, who died Tuesday, July 21, 2026, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at First Church @ Rt. 8, 1802 N. Main St. Extension, Butler, followed immediately by a memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Kim’s memory to First Church Missions, 1802 N. Main St. Extension, Butler, PA 16001, to help support her passion of helping others.
