Donald ‘Dean’ Shoup

Donald Dean Shoup, 89, of St. Petersburg, Pa., passed away unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, July 22, 2026, at his home.

Dean was born in Allegheny Township, Butler County, on Sept. 23, 1936.

He was the son of the late Robert F. and Ruth W. Garris Shoup. He was a graduate of Parker High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from Quaker State Oil Refining Corporation, in Emlenton, following more than 30 years of service.

Dean enjoyed collecting old post cards, spending winters in Florida, gardening and having lunch with his friends and family. He and his wife, Sonja, enjoyed traveling and had visited all 67 counties in Pennsylvania. Dean was a member of both the former St. Peter Lutheran Church, in St. Petersburg, and the Salem Lutheran Church, in Knox.

Dean was married on Jan. 28, 1961, to Sonja Ann Master Shoup. Mrs. Shoup preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 2025.

Surviving are his brothers and sister-in-law, Robert Shoup and Thomas and Geraldine Shoup; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and a niece.

SHOUP — Private funeral arrangements for Donald Dean Shoup, who died Wednesday, July 22, 2026, are under the direction of HILE FUNERAL HOME, St. Petersburg.
