Replacement of water lines planned throughout county

Pennsylvania American Water will replace 4,600 feet of aging water mains in the county at a total cost of $725,000.

Gary Lobaugh, external affairs manager, said the upgrades will improve service reliability and fire protection for residents.

A main line along North Elm Street from Locust to East Jefferson streets in Butler has been replaced.

Another main along Morton Avenue from the intersection at Pittsburgh Road to McQuistion Road spans both Butler and Butler Township, Lobaugh said.

That line will be replaced in late June.

The company also will make system upgrades along Route 68 in Connoquenessing and Connoquenessing Township in early summer.

Lobaugh said work hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Evening and weekend work are not anticipated unless required to keep the project on schedule, Lobaugh said.

The completion of all projects is expected in late summer, with final street restoration completed in the fall.
