[naviga:h3]Pfizer pays $14B for Medivation[/naviga:h3]

NEW YORK — Pfizer will pay about $14 billion in cash for the cancer drug company Medivation, a deal that will add the pricey late-stage prostate cancer treatment Xtandi to its oncology portfolio.

Xtandi drew attention earlier this year from the public interest group Knowledge Economy International, which petitioned the National Institutes of Health to reduce the $129,000-a year list price for the advanced prostate cancer treatment. The government declined.

Pfizer said Medivation also has promising pipeline of cancer drugs in late-stage clinical development. That includes the potential breast cancer treatment talazoparib and a potential lymphoma drug.

DALLAS — Most restrictions on flights between the U.S. and Mexico are being lifted. American, Delta and Southwest have already announced that they will offer new flights this year. A spokesman for United said the airline is monitoring customer demand.

The United States and Mexico agreed in December to open their aviation markets to each other’s carriers. Rules that had generally limited two or three airlines from each country to a particular route are going away.

CAMARILLO, Calif. — The average price of gasoline in the U.S. is up by over half a cent to $2.17 a gallon for regular.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said higher crude oil prices are causing refiners and retailers to bump up their prices.

The highest average price in the contiguous U.S. is $2.67 a gallon in San Francisco. The lowest is $1.81 in Tucson, Ariz.
