Virginia G. Croop
Virginia G. Croop, 95, of Mars died Thursday at the Shelbourne Personal Care Home in Penn Township.
Born in Lawren-ceville, Feb. 18, 1916, she was the daughter of William E. and Jane Resek Boice, who are deceased.
Virginia was a member of the Mars United Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years and taught Sunday school.
She belonged to the Mars Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 271, from the early 1950s until 1985. She was past matron from 1958 to 1959 and former district deputy grand matron, Pennsylvania District 2B, New Castle, from 1962 to 1963.
She was a member of the Polaris Chapter 531, Gibsonia, from 1985 to 1995 and the Valencia Order of Rebecca's, where she was a past noble grand. She had been a board member of the Mars Rainbow Girls.
She was very involved in the Mars chapter of the AARP.
Virginia was a 1933 graduate of Mars High School and a homemaker who loved to sew and bake. She volunteered at VA Butler Healthcare for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil R. Croop, who she married March 12, 1938, and who died Jan. 1, 1997.
Surviving are one son, Howard W. Croop and his wife, Mary Ann, of Mars; one sister, Josephine A. Brockman of Mars; two brothers, William Boice of Evans City and Lawrence Boice of New Brighton.
Virginia was a grandmother of Brian Croop and the late Neil Croop. She also is survived by two great-grandsons.
