Casino, city reach $10 million dealPITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh’s mayor said the city will receive $10 million in gambling tax money through this year and at least next year under a deal with Rivers Casino.Mayor Bill Peduto said Monday the stopgap measure closes a large budget shortfall and will cover more than 200 positions. The Democrat said the city has reduced its work force by 25 percent in recent years and another such reduction would hinder its ability to serve residents.The state Supreme Court ruled in September that the formula that determines how much casinos must pay their host communities was unconstitutional.

New Balance denounces bigotryBOSTON — Athletic-gear company New Balance is distancing itself from a white supremacist website’s call to support it for statements a company executive made backing Donald Trump.The alt-right website The Daily Stormer proclaimed Boston-based New Balance the “Official Shoes of White People” this weekend.A company executive told the Wall Street Journal that the election of Trump was a move in the “right direction,” a comment that caused some people who don’t like Trump to burn their New Balance sneakers. New Balance told The Associated Press late Monday it “does not tolerate bigotry or hate in any form.”

Home Depot beats financial forecastsATLANTA — Home Depot today reported fiscal third-quarter earnings of $1.97 billion. The Atlanta-based company said it had profit of $1.60 per share.The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 14 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was earnings of $1.58 per share.The retailer posted revenue of $23.15 billion, also beating forecasts.
