Gary McKinney, of Tarentum, lost his high school ring in the mid-1970s while he was hunting near the Heath Pump Station along the Clarion River. On June 19, 2009, Richard Walker, of Butler, found it while he was fly fishing.

"I was changing fliers and just happened to look down in the water," said Walker, who was retired and 66 years old when he came across the ring.

Sally Walker, Richard’s wife who worked for Butler Area School District as a food service manager, said the couple and a friend were camping at the Kalyumet Campground for the weekend. She said her husband was in about 10 inches of water, and the ring was lying between two stones.

Richard said he had been fishing for 55 years and has never found anything like the ring before.

“(McKinney) was surprised because he had it a week when he lost it,” Richard said.
