SRU's Scales reaches 1,000 points

SLIPPERY ROCK— Senior forward Jamar Scales became the 20th player in Slippery Rock University men's basketball history to score 1,000 points Tuesday night.

Scales netted a team-high 22 points in The Rock's 125-58 victory over Penn State-Fayette at Morrow Field House.

Scales' 1,000th point came on a 3-pointer midway through the second half and marked SRU's 100th point of the night. The Rock (5-0) has scored more than 100 points in four of its five victories.

The last SRU men's basketball team to begin a season 5-0 was in 1990-91.

The Rock will attempt to become the program's first 6-0 team since 1963-64 when it travels to Bloomsburg for a 3 p.m. game Saturday. First-year SRUcoach Kevin Reynolds is a 1991 Bloomsburg graduate and a former basketball player there.

Five other players reached double figures for The Rock Tuesday. Denell Stephens had 19 points and eight rebounds. Stephens was named PSAC West Player of the Week earlier in the day.

Butler graduate Jade Burka scored 15 points, Maurice Douglas and Maron Brown had 13 each, and Michael Evans Jr. had 12 points. Senior point guard Kyle Camper had 14 assists, his fifth consecutive game of 10 or more assists.
