Bucs recall Presley, send Irwin down
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates have optioned right-handed pitcher Phil Irwin to Triple-A Indianapolis and called up outfielder Alex Presley.
Irwin made a spot start in Sunday’s 10-7 win over Cincinnati but did not factor in the decision, giving up five runs, four earned on six hits in 4 2-3 innings. He struck out four and walked four. Irwin started in place of Wandy Rodriguez, who is nursing a strained left hamstring.
Presley hit .357 with a home run and two RBI in seven games for Indianapolis.
