Bates Sr.

Thomas R. Bates Sr., 72, of Fombell died Tuesday at his home.

Born July 9, 1939, in Zelienople, he was the son of the late Thomas C. and Gladys Fisher Bates.

Mr. Bates worked as an auto body repairman for many years in his family business.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flea markets and all outdoor activities.

He is survived by a son, Thomas R. Bates Jr. and his fiancee, Cindy Kennedy of Fombell; two daughters, Michelle J. Moss and her husband, Kevin, of Avalon and Barbara R. Grag and her husband, Doug, of Economy; a sister, Sue Cunningham of Fombell; a brother, Raymond Bates of Butler; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean R. (Fox) Bates, who died on July 24, 2008.
