Butler man accused of beating father with hammer
A Butler man allegedly struck his father multiple times with a hammer and was found with another weapon, a Molotov cocktail, in Franklin Township, state police said.
Timothy Jack Butler, 31, was charged Thursday, July 9, with two felony counts of aggravated assault and one misdemeanor count each of simple assault and owning an incendiary device following an incident that afternoon.
Police said they were dispatched to North Road for a fight. A man at the scene told police they were arguing over using controlled substances when Butler punched him in the face and then struck him multiple times with a hammer.
The man had swelling on the left side of his face from the punch, several marks on his arms from the hammer and a long cut on the back of his arms from the hammer’s claw, police said.
When police were searching the scene, they found what appeared to be a Molotov cocktail that witnesses said Butler constructed. Police said Butler had also made threats to burn down the house and other homes.
Butler’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
