Roland E. Hortert, 78, of Butler passed away Wednesday at his home.

He was born in Butler on July 5, 1933, son of the late Ferdinand and Anna Kovach Hortert.

He was employed at Pullman Standard as a welder and retired when the plant closed.

Roland was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War.

He was an avid bowler, a charter member of the Butler Bowling Association, and bowled in many leagues in the Butler area.

He was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 117 of Butler.

He is survived by his two brothers, Donald Hortert and his wife, Helen, and James Hortert and his wife, Lynn, all of Butler; and his four sisters, Dorothy Beblo, Frances Uram, Julia Lacuesta and Patricia Goephert, all of Butler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his two brothers, Joseph and William Hortert.

<B>HORTERT</B> — There will be no visitation for Roland E. Hortert, who passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. James Dolan officiating. The burial will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the American Heart Association or to the donor's favorite charityArrangements are entrusted to <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, Butler.
