Butler’s aces, catcher make PA all-state baseball team after historic season
Weeks after making the PIAA Class 6A championship, Butler baseball’s three biggest names are all-state honorees.
The Golden Tornado’s ace pitchers Kyle Casteel and Nolan Stefaniak, as well as their battery mate, senior catcher Mavrik Clement, were named Class 6A first-team all-stars by the Pennsylvania State Baseball Coaches Association on Wednesday.
All three were Butler Eagle all-county first team last week, and Stefaniak was named the Baseball Player of the Year and the Butler Eagle Male Athlete of the Year in the past two weeks.
Stefaniak, a two-way talent heading to Penn State next year, went 8-2 on the mound this season with a 1.18 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 59.1 innings. He hit .364 with 20 RBIs and two home runs.
Casteel, a West Virginia commit who could here his name called in the MLB draft July 11-13 along with Stefaniak, was a perfect 10-0 on the mount with a 0.64 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 65.2 innings.
Clement, a Pitt pledge, hit .312 with 14 RBIs and three homers for a team that won its first WPIAL crown this year.
