William Doak 'Bill' Runkle
William Doak “Bill” Runkle Jr., 65, of Harmony passed away Friday in the comfort of his home.
Born Aug. 16, 1946, in Butler, he was the son of the late William D. and Alice (Spear) Runkle.
Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps during the Vietnam War. Upon his return to the United States, he was stationed at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital.
Bill was a sales manager of Rush Motors in Zelienople and of the Murray Agency Butler office. For several years, he was in flooring sales where he worked for many different retailers and retired in 2009.
He enjoyed working with classic cars, listening to oldies music and playing cards with his buddies. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father who truly loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Rebecca “Becky” (Murray) Runkle of Harmony, who he married on July 9, 1966; two daughters, Michele Gesswein and her husband, August, of Wilton, N.Y., and Leslie Custer and her husband, Brandon, of Baltimore, Md.; his brother, Paul Runkle and his wife, Nancy, of Latrobe; his sister, Linda Lydic of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Brianna and Colin Gesswein and Jacob Custer; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Runkle.
<B>RUNKLE</B> — The family of William Doak “Bill” Runkle Jr., who passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Boylan Funeral Home</B>, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
