Shirley McElroy

Shirley Ann McElroy, 82, of Chicora passed away Tuesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Born May 12, 1929, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Stella Quigley.

Shirley started her career at Armco Steel, now AK Steel, as a secretary. When she returned to the workforce in the 1970s, she worked as a secretary for the Best Insurance Agency.

Shirley belonged to the Karns City Methodist Church, the Chicora Senior Center, the Buco Trailer Club and the Red Hatters. For many years, she was a winter resident of Eustis, Fla. She enjoyed playing cards, camping, reading and bowling.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale E. McElroy, who passed away in November 1996.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon McElroy of Waynesboro, Va.; a son, Douglas McElroy and his wife, Gloria, of Knoxville, Tenn.; a granddaughter Merritt McElroy; four nieces; one nephew; and three cousins.
