Viola Slagle

Viola Louise Slagle, 94, of Bruin passed away Saturday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler surrounded by her family.

She was born April 10, 1917, in Rimersburg, the daughter of Charles and Vernie (Sallade) Guntrum.

Viola lived all of her adult life in the Bruin area. She married William F. Slagle on Oct. 9, 1935, and they shared 43 years of marriage together before his death in 1978.

She was a Protestant and a member of the VFW Post 7073 in Parker.

Viola was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. A homemaker at heart, she also enjoyed going to bingo, working crossword puzzles and playing cards with her card club friends. She never lost focus for what was most important to her, her children and grandchildren. Viola's kind heart and generous spirit will live on in her family and she will be sadly missed by all.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons, William G. Slagle and Gary Dean Slagle and his wife, Peg, all of Butler; her daughter, Doris L. Rosenberg and her husband, John, of Petrolia; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and her sister, Alberta Seybert of Butler.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William F. Slagle, who died Sept. 22, 1978; three brothers, Kenneth, Raymond and Clarence Guntrum; and four sisters, Lois Klingman and three infant sisters.
