Virginia L. Helmrich

Virginia L. Helmrich, 99, of Slippery Rock passed away Sunday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Born in Seattle, on Dec. 17, 1912, she was the daughter of Adah H. and Otto L. Luther.

She graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree and taught high school English and languages before marrying Harold Helmrich, the former head librarian at Slippery Rock University (SRU).

Virginia had a bright and active mind. She was involved with SRU, the community and the church. She loved to read and to write, but most of all she loved to hear others’ stories. Those stories were invariably put to paper. The typewriter was her best friend.

Surviving are her two sons, Mark Helmrich of Slippery Rock and Dwight Helmrich of Cincinnati. She was preceded in death by her husband and her son, Steven Helmrich.

HELMRICH — Virginia L. Helmrich, 99, of Slippery Rock passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012. A celebration of her life will be at the Center Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock, at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, with the Rev. William Mumaw presiding.
