Shirley J. Ohl
Shirley J. Ohl, 78, of Sarver passed away Wednesday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.
Born Oct. 15, 1933, in Natrona Heights, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Thelma (Harned) Miller.
She was a 1951 graduate of Freeport High School and a 1955 graduate of Indiana (Pa.) University with a degree in elementary music education.
From 1955 to 1963, Shirley taught elementary music at the seven elementary schools in the Apollo School District. From 1968 to 1972, she was an elementary music teacher in the Freeport School District.
Shirley was the youth choir director at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeport for more 30 years. Shirley also was a private piano teacher, giving lessons in her home. She was active in the music ministry at the St. Luke Lutheran Church, Cabot, where she was a member.
Surviving are her husband, Victor Ohl, who she married Aug. 26, 1972; her daughter, Linda Sarver of Sarver; her granddaughter, Sophia Sarver of Sarver; her brother, William (Miriam) Miller of Lancaster, Pa.; her sisters-in-law, Sylvia Gregory of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mildred Sarver of Buffalo Township; her brothers-in-law, Howard Ohl of Sarver and Walter (Doris) Ohl of Ocala, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Calvin D. Sarver, who passed away in 1963, and her brother-in-law, Morris Sarver.
OHL — Friends of Shirley J. Ohl, who passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg.Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Barry Keurulainen officiating.
