Charles Harvey McConnell, 81, of Butler passed away Sunday evening at the VA Butler Healthcare.

He was born in West Sunbury on May 15, 1931. Charles was the son of the late Harvey and Edith Miller McConnell.

Preceding him in death on Aug. 24, 2006, was his wife, the former Vera M. Gold, who he married on Sept. 12, 1953.

A sergeant in the U.S. Army, he served 14 months of combat during the Korean War, receiving five Battle Stars during his four years of service.

He retired in 1987 from the Verizon Corp. after 32 years working as a building mechanic starting with the Bell Telephone Co.

Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Scott of Atlanta, Ga.; his brother, James McConnell of Boise, Idaho; two sisters, Janet Beier of Panama City, Fla.; and Carol Currie of Fenelton, Pa.; one granddaughter, Melissa Holzworth of Ft. Valley, Ga.; his companion, Virginia Yeager; his niece and caregiver, Cheryl O'Day; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda McConnell, and his brother, Kenneth McConnell.

MCCONNELL — Honoring his wishes, there are no calling hours or services for Charles Harvey McConnell, who passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013.Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Decarbo Funeral Home, 941 S.
