Edith Rose Johannes

Edith Rose Johannes, 93, passed away on March 19, 2013.

She was born April 23, 1919. She was the youngest and last surviving of six children of Edward and Winnie Johannes.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Clifford, Clarence, Leo, Mildred and Dorothy.

She has lived in the Concordia retirement community in Cabot for the past 11 years and was a member of the St. Luke's Lutheran Church. She served in World War II as a nurse in the Army Nurse Corps with the 201st hospital in Europe. She earned a master's degree in public health nursing in 1959, and became a professor of nursing at Alfred University. Her nursing career stretched more than 40 years and was a volunteer with the Allegheny County American Red Cross for 15 years. She was an avid gardener and reader.

JOHANNES — A memorial service for Edith Rose Johannes, who passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, will be held at Haven One at Concordia Retirement Community at a date and time to be announced later.Memorials can be made to the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Cabot.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fox Funeral Home, Saxonburg.Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 312 Mercer St., Butler, PA 16001.For more information, go to www.foxfuneralhomeinc.com.
