David Lee Sansom

David Lee Sansom, 71 of Hilton Head Island, S.C., passed away Wednesday.

David was born June 5, 1941, in Butler, to Benjamin and Emma Sansom.

David was the oldest of four children. His siblings are Sally Kemper, Susan Mort and Chris Sansom.

At the age of 18, David joined the U.S. Army and became a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. While in the service, David met and married his wife of 50 years, Anneliese, on Aug. 16, 1962.

David and Anna have two children, Sandy and Dave. The family spent many years in Butler before relocating to South Carolina. David spent much of his career at National Underground Storage (NUS), a vital records storage company in Boyers. NUS was located in a 1.7 million square feet underground facility located in a former limestone mine. David was the CEO of NUS for 15 years. In 1998, NUS was purchased by Iron Mountain. After assisting with the transition, David retired and he and Anna moved to Hilton Head, S.C.

David and Anna's two children live in Charleston, S.C. Their son Dave and his wife, Nancy, have two children, Gabriel, 9, and Noah, 6. David enjoyed many years of playing tennis and bike riding on Hilton Head Island. His other hobbies included reading and spoiling his grandchildren.

David's brother Chris and his wife Maria still live in Butler, along with his sister Sally Kemper. David's sister Susan lives in Solana Beach, Calif.

SANSOM — The family of David Lee Sansom, who passed away Wednesday May 22, 2013, looks forward to receiving friends at Island Funeral Home, Hilton Head Island, S.C. at 10 a.m. Wednesday, before the service which begins at 11 a.m. David will be laid to rest at Beaufort National Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.More information can be found at www.theislandfuneralhome.com.
