SRU ROUNDUP

George Hebert and Joby Lapkowicz pitched complete-game shutouts to lead the Slippery Rock University baseball team to a 15-0, 6-0 doubleheader victory over visiting Clarion University Friday.

SRU snapped a five-game losing streak to improve to 8-10 overall and 2-4 in the PSAC West.

The Rock banged out 27 hits in the two games, including solo home runs by Nick Caito and Mark Kosik in the opening contest.

An 11-run, nine-hit sixth inning blew the game open, highlighted by a two-run single by Jacob Oswalt and a two-run homer by Matt Howard.

Jamison Walck went 3-for-5 with four RBI and Oswalt added three RBI.

Hebert (3-1) struck out five.

In the nightcap, Derek DiRuscia had two doubles and three RBI to pave the way for an 11-hit outing.

Lapkowicz allowed only three hits to the Golden Eagles.

SoftballSRU lost to West Virginia Wesleyan 7-0 and to West Virginia State 9-2 Friday at the Salem (Va.) Invitational.The Rock had six errors and just three hits in the opener. Shardea Croes had a double and Jessica Kortz added a sacrifice fly to plate SRU's first run.In the second inning, Kirsten Brant (Knoch) walked and Jenna Geibel (Butler) had an RBI triple.
