LOCK HAVEN — The Slippery Rock University baseball team averted disaster Friday in a doubleheader at Lock Haven.
The Rock (16-18, 9-9) took a 10-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game, only to see the Bald Eagles (9-21, 1-13) score eight runs in their final at-bat to tie the score.
The Rock's Derek DiRuscia produced a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth, however, giving SRU an 11-10 victory. Lock Haven shut out The Rock 10-0 in Game 2 for its first PSAC West win.
SRU banged out 16 hits in the first game. Adam Jury had three singles and Jacob Oswalt had two hits, including a homer. Matt Howard, Carter Haplonski, Mitch Monas, Jamison Walck and DiRuscia each had two hits.
Justin Thomas got the win in relief while Jason Steen got the save.
Tyler Rumsey pitched a six-hit shutout for the Bald Eagles in the nightcap.
