John Sears Purdy Jr., 88, of Zelienople passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday while under the care of the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople.

Born on Feb. 14, 1925, in Mercer County, N.J., he was one of 11 children born to the late John and Florence Purdy.

John honorably served our country in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946.

In his earlier years, John served with Dottie as resident managers of Indian Braves Campground in Zelienople, Stan Hywet Hall in Akron, Ohio, and an estate in Florida.

He is survived by his two sisters.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dottie, who passed away on July 4, 2009, and who he married in 1945. She was well-known for her music performances, paintings and sculptures. They had no children.

PURDY — Memorial services for John Sears Purdy Jr., who passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, will be at the Seaman Chapel at Passavant Retirement Community at a time and date to be announced.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.Particular gratitude is offered to the nurses, social staff and volunteers at Passavant for their loving care, and in John's final moments, their most compassionate attention.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor in support of the Seaman Chapel at Passavant Retirement Community, 401 S.
