SRU men's soccer blanks Wheeling
Four players scored a goal for the Slippery Rock University men's soccer team in a 4-0 blanking of Wheeling Jesuit Saturday afternoon.
Kenneth Fultz, Tynan Smith, Alex Swartz and Mitchell Walters each found the net for The Rock (10-3-1).
SRU goalkeeper Greg Blum earned his fourth shutout of the season, stopping five shots.
Women's SoccerKara Mullins scored a goal and also had an assist as the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team edged Mercyhurst 2-1 Saturday afternoon.Shelby Ward also scored for The Rock (9-3-2, 7-3-2).The win was a crucial one for SRU. The victory moved The Rock into third place in the PSACt.
VolleyballSophomore outside hitter Lexi Arnold had 20 kills as the Slippery Rock University volleyball team split two matches Saturday.The Rock fell to Alderson-Broaddus in five sets in the first match Saturday. Arnold had 10 kills and 13 digs in that defeat.SRU, though, bounced back to down Fairmont State in five sets. Arnold had 10 kills and three service aces in the victory. Kaylee Smith led The Rock (8-15, 5-8) with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Field HockeyJunior forward Rebecca Coleman scored the lone goal for the Slippery Rock University field hockey team in a 6-1 loss to top-ranked East Stroudsburg .
FootballThe Grove City College (3-3) defense held Geneva to 42 yards of offense in the second half and hung on for a 13-7 football victory Saturday night.Junior nose tackle Jarred Frawley led the Wolverines with 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks.Freshman quarterback Brian Pell threw a 17-yard TD pass to Blaine Miller and scored the winning points on a 1-yard run.
