Fire leaves city family homeless
A possible electrical fire Sunday afternoon left a Butler family homeless and caused more than $100,000 in damage, authorities said.
Owners Rick and Jennifer Kuntz and their children, 9 and 4, were not home and no one was injured, according to the Butler Fire Department.
A neighbor at 3:21 p.m. called 911 to report the fire at 321 Federal St.
City firefighters had the fire under control in 15 to 20 minutes.
Investigators said the fire was accidental, and likely was electrical in nature.
The second and third floors had fire damage while the first floor had minimal water damage.
Damage to the house was estimated at $65,000; however, the structure likely can be repaired, fire officials said. An additional $40,000 in damage was reported to the home's contents.
Anyone wanting to help the family can send cash donations to the Butler Red Cross at 312 Mercer St. in Butler. Online donations can also be made to www.ButlerRedCross.org.
