James C. 'Jim' Schrecengost
James C. “Jim” Schrecengost, 91, of Chicora, formerly of Timblin, went to be with the Lord on Thursday evening at the VNA Inpatient Hospice following an illness.
Born in Belknap on Feb. 13, 1922, Jim was the son of Ira M. “Cooney” and Ruby B. Boyd Schrecengost.
He attended school in Timblin.
Mr. Schrecengost was a member of the Karns City United Methodist Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Punxsutawney.
He had been employed through the years by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers at Crooked Creek State Park, Pittsburgh Plate Glass and Crawford Furniture.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Maxine McElravy.
Surviving are four stepchildren, Theodore McElravy and his wife, Linda, of Chicora, Gretchen Hemphill and her husband, Marty, of Renfrew, Christeen Rodgers and her husband, Dennis, of Mount Chestnut and Gregg McElravy and his wife, Barb, of Chicora; two sisters, Joanne Kosko of Portage and Marge Hartley of Austin, Texas; one sister-in-law, Shirley Schrecengost of Templeton; as well as a number of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Reed Schrecengost and Regnald Boyd; and three sisters, Muriel Gregorson, Helen Anderson and Jean Yearshunas.
SCHRECENGOST — Private visitation and a funeral service for James C. “Jim” Schrecengost were Saturday at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora-Fenelton Road, Chicora, with the Rev. Alison Fisher, a United Methodist pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Belknap Cemetery near Dayton.
