Verna B. Weisenstein, 95, of Butler passed away at 5:50 a.m. Saturday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on July 21, 1918, in Butler to the late Milton Cottrill and Anise (McClain) Cottrill.

Mrs. Weisenstein worked at the former F.W. Woolworth's Department Store, where she retired after 35 years of service.

She was a member of the North Street Christian Church and the Tanglewood Center, and she volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Weisenstein was an avid card player and enjoyed gardening and tending to her flower beds. She also cared for “Charlie,” the parrot from Woolworth's for many years.

Mrs. Weisenstein is survived by three grandchildren, James Weisenstein II and his wife, Melissa, Kevin Weisenstein and Lisa Weisenstein, all of Butler, and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Weisenstein; two brothers; and one sister.

Weisenstein — The friends of Verna B. Weisenstein, who passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.The funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Robert C. Huber of the North Street Christian Church officiating.
