Barbara Woodruff Houston, 69, of Butler passed away Thursday.

She was born on Jan. 5, 1945, in Birmingham, Ala., to the late Emmett R. Woodruff and Daisy L. Caldwell.

She was a member of the Community Alliance Church in Butler.

She was employed by the Veterans Administration Medical Center as a relations specialist, retiring in 2000 following 28 years of service.

She enjoyed bowling, but her greatest priority and enjoyment was caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Emmett Woodruff of Butler; her two daughters, Samantha Houston of Erie, Pa., and La Quitta Tompkins of Birmingham, Ala.; her nephew, Roderick Caldwell of Erie, Pa.; and her four grandchildren, DeShundra Houston, Gregory Houston, TeQuia Tompkins and Kasunte' Woodruff.

Her six great-grandchildren, Byron M. Houston, Chianne Houston, Anjay Houston, Triston Tompkins, Mya Alyse Houston and Avery Ann Houston; her four nieces of Alabama and a very special companion for the past 20 plus years, Byron Mabel, also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and her sister.

HOUSTON — There will be no public visitation for Barbara Woodruff Houston, who passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014. The services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Community Alliance Church, Butler, with the Rev. Dennis Krajacic, pastor, officiating.The arrangements are by the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E.
