It’s playoff time for everyone.

Myself included.

Time to up your game. Time to separate the eagles from the eaglets.

Some local teams proved they were very much eagles last week. Mars and (Sc)Ori Rinaman, who found the end zone not one, not two, not three ... but six times, come to mind.

This week, though, the Planets will face another tough test when they take on Thomas Jefferson.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic had an easy time with Avella and will now face South Side Beaver.

Slippery Rock gets a chance to get off the playoff schneid against Seneca. Despite going 29-1 the last three years in the regular season, the Rockets are 0-3 in the postseason.

Moniteau and Union get rematches. The Warriors played St. Marys two weeks ago and lost. The Golden Knights played Ridgway and won in a rout.

And Karns City is idle this week as they await the winner of Moniteau-St. Marys.

On to the picks:

Thomas Jefferson 27, Mars 21 — One has to wonder what would have become of the Planets this season had most of their offensive line and their running backs not missed time.+++

They’d probably be right back where they are now, but perhaps not as battle tested and resilient.

My heart says Mars will find a way to win this one, but my gut says TJ.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 44, South Side Beaver 14 — My gut and my heart say Cardinal Wuerl in a matchup of two of the longest school names in the WPIAL.

The Trojans continue their march toward Heinz Field.

St. Marys 32, Moniteau 16 — The Warriors fell behind 21-0 to the Dutch early in their last meeting a couple of weeks ago.

Moniteau can’t afford a slow start like that again.

Union 29, Ridgway 26 — Ridgway is the No. 1 seed in District 9 Class A. Union is the No. 8 seed. Yet most pundits will tell you the Golden Knights are the unquestioned favorite in this meeting.

Why?

History.

Union throttled Ridgway, 32-7, the last time these two teams squared off. Union’s offense is scary good and its defense is underrated.

Union moves on.

Slippery Rock 38, Seneca 8 — The Rockets survived a very strange Week 10 game indeed. With a running clock from the opening kickoff, Slippery Rock fell behind Wilmington 7-0, but recovered for an abbreviated 27-7 victory.

Seneca coach Dave Frank compared this Rockets’ team to the General McLane squad that won the state title in 2006.

The Scoopster’s quest for 100 ... make that 110 — I’m only two short of my first 100-win season. It was pointed out, however, that it would be a hollow achievement because of the extra games I picked this season.

So, I am amending my goal to 110 victories.

Like I said, time to up my game.
