Mary Alice Recicar Kopiec, 86, of Slippery Rock, Slippery Rock Township, passed away at the Slippery Rock Personal Care Home in Slippery Rock at 8:35 a.m. Thursday following a three-month illness.

She was born in Canonsburg on April 13, 1927, to the late John and Anna Klinger Recicar.

Mary Alice married Edward Kopiec on Sept. 4, 1948, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 1980.

She was a school nurse for the Canonsburg School District and St. Patrick Grade School for a couple afternoons a week. She was a member of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Meadowlands.

Survivors include her son, Edward Kopiec and his wife, Janet, of Slippery Rock; her daughter, Debra Ann and her husband, Frank Leskovic, of Rochester, N.Y.; her three grandchildren, Nate and Matt Leskovic and Michele Kopiec; and her great-granddaughter, Paige Kopiec.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Thomas.

Kopiec — There will be a private funeral Mass for Mary Alice Recicar Kopiec, who passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Slippery Rock with the Rev. Father Kevin Poecking of St. Peter presiding.Immediately following the Mass, interment will take place at Saint Patrick Cemetery in Canonsburg.Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. There will be no visitation services at the funeral home.
