OAKLAND TWP — Butler Senior High School student Colt Filges, 16, won champion cow-calf pair and reserve grand champion intermediate showman at the state Junior Hereford Preview Show on May 27.

Twenty-seven exhibitors from ages 8 to 21 traveled to Stoneboro, Pa., for the show. David Downs of Stoneboro judged the cattle.

Filges showed a heifer he took to the show last year, paired with a calf he showed for the first time.

The heifer won the supreme heifer award last year.

"It was kind of exciting to bring that heifer back to the show, and have it do well again," said Filges, who is the son of Darrell and Sherry Filges.

Cattle were judged by general appearance and body structure. More than 70 head of cattle were judged at the show, according to a press release.
