Butler graduate Madden Clement leaving Virginia Tech baseball, enters transfer portal

Butler graduate Madden Clement has entered the transfer portal, marking a likely end to his baseball tenure at Virginia Tech.

According to the Hokies’ athletics website, Clement posted a 3.95 ERA in eight appearances as a junior, pitching 13.2 innings, allowing 10 hits, striking out 13 and walking nine. He filled Virginia Tech’s midweek starter role during the latter stages of the this season.

Clement, whose father is Matt Clement, now-former longtime Golden Tornado boys basketball coach and ex-Major League Baseball pitcher, missed over a year due to an arm injury before that.

Madden Clement is currently pitching for the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod League. He’s made one appearance thus far, turning in two innings of work, allowing one hit and striking out four.

Per statistics from MaxPreps, Madden Clement made eight pitching appearances for Josh Forbes’ team as a senior in 2023, going 3-1 with a 1.33 ERA over 26.1 innings. He struck out 36 that same campaign and walked 20.

Madden’s younger brother, recent Butler graduate Mavrik Clement, is headed to Pitt as a catcher.
