Morgantown getting Bucs' Class A affiliate

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Pittsburgh Pirates’ short season Class A affiliate is moving to West Virginia.

The New York-Penn League announced Monday that the Jamestown Jammers will play starting next summer at a new ballpark under construction in Morgantown.

A contest to name the relocated team will be held this fall.

The team will share the stadium with West Virginia University’s baseball team, whose home schedule occurs in the spring.

The Jammers are owned by Bob Rich, chairman of Rich Baseball Operations and Rich Products Corp, a Buffalo, N.Y.-based food service and entertainment company.

WVU athletic director Oliver Luck says he’s looking forward to a long and productive relationship with the relocated team.

The Pirates already have a Class A South Atlantic League affiliate in Charleston, the West Virginia Power.
