Traffic lines up Wednesday evening on Route 228 at the intersection with Pittsburgh Street and Warrendale Road in Adams Township.

ADAMS TWP — Two state Department of Transportation projects will affect motorists in the southwestern part of the county.

PennDOT announced that crews will eradicate existing paint lines and place temporary markings for new lanes on Route 228 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Thursday into Friday from the Beaver Street Extension to Mars-Valencia Road.

Varying traffic patterns will occur in both the eastbound and westbound lanes, according to a news release from PennDOT.

The new lanes were added at the intersection of Warrendale Road and Pittsburgh Street as part of an $8 million Route 228 expansion project at that intersection.

Right and left turn lanes have also been added to Warrendale Road and Pittsburgh Street as well as a lane for through traffic and a bicycle lane.

The overnight work on Thursday allows for work on the new traffic signal to be completed at the intersection and the final layer to be added to the expanded highway.

CRANBERRY TWP — North Boundary Road will be closed to all traffic from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Sept. 13 to 16, according to a news release from the state’s Department of Transportation.Crews will install bridge beams on the Interstate 79 southbound bridge during the closure.Motorists can take Marshall Road to Rowan Road to Route 19, then north back to North Boundary Road.A detour map is available at www.penndot.gov/District 10.
