Lewis J. Hoover

Lewis J. Hoover passed away Oct. 20 at his home.

Born on Feb. 21, 1930, to Anna Risser and Luther Nelson Hoover in Harrisburg, he graduated from Penn State and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

In 1962, he co-founded the Brodhead Construction Co., building bridges throughout Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

He served as president of the Constructors Association of Western Pennsylvania and of Associated Pennsylvania Constructors and in various posts for the Pennsylvania Highway Information Association, the Laborers District Council of Western Pennsylvania Pension and Welfare Funds, and the Heavy Construction Carpenters Savings and Annuity Funds.

Lew's brother, Luther Hoover Jr.; his beloved wife of 60 years, Frances E. Gavlik Hoover; and their daughter, Cindy, went ahead.

He leaves their son, Kip (Lynne) Hoover; their daughters, Judith Hoover (Tim Grant) and Lisa (Keith) Hinchberger, and their grandchildren, Sophia, Brendan and Kyle, having inspired them by his example to value dignity, generosity, friendship, and the splendors of an adventurous life. He sailed the Gulf. He climbed Parnassus. He was a gentleman.

Hoover — A celebration of life for Lewis J. Hoover, who passed away Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 29 at Sherwood Oaks, 100 Norman Drive, Cranberry Township.Arrangements are by the Saul-Gabauer Funeral Home, Rochester.Online condolences may be offered at www.saul-gabauer.com.
