TOWN CRIER
The Slippery Rock University Council of Trustees, at its meeting Friday:
• Heard that Kathleen Strickland, dean of the college of education, would retire in June after 24 years at SRU. She was named dean last year.
• Voted to name the art sculpture building on campus the James C. Myford Art Sculpture Building.
Myford was an SRU professor of 29 years, retiring in 1997. Since then, he has become a world-renowned sculptor. Locally, his work appears outside SRU’s Swope Music Hall and in Gateway Park in Slippery Rock.
The 5,100-square-foot, $1.25-million building opened in fall of 2009 giving students a larger and more efficient facility for creating works in clay, metal, wood and other materials.
• Passed a resolution honoring trustee John Thornburgh, who is retiring from the council this month. He was named to the council in 2002.
