Crews from 3 counties respond to fire above Zelienople funeral home
Emergency services from three counties responded to a fire in the walls and attic of an apartment above a funeral home in Zelienople on Saturday night, June 6.
The fire was reported at 11:06 p.m. above Boylan-Glenn-Kildoo Funeral home at 219 E. Grandview Ave, according to Butler County Emergency Services dispatch.
Arriving crews from Harmony Fire District found smoke in the attic and found the fire in the surrounding walls, which is when a second alarm was called, according to a Facebook post from Harmony Fire District.
The fire was under control in about 35 minutes. Crews had to break into the walls and ceiling to get to it. They were on the scene for just over two hours.
No one was in the apartment when the fire broke out.
Low staffing among crews led firefighters from different stations to work together to get water to the third floor, according to a Facebook post from Callery Volunteer Fire Company.
Responding fire services included SAFER Group companies Harmony Fire District, Adams Area Fire District, Cranberry Township and Callery volunteer fire companies, Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, Portersville-Muddy Creek Township, Middlesex Township and Prospect volunteer fire departments.
New Sewickley Fire District, Ellwood City Fire Department and Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department in Beaver County and Wurtemburg-Perry Volunteer Fire Department in Lawrence County also responded.
