Great Living to appeal township's decision

Property developer Great Living LLC is going to take legal action against Butler Township regarding its Highfield Trails development off Highfield and South Duffy roads.

Butler Township manager Tom Knights confirmed that the township solicitor met virtually with representatives of Great Living Wednesday to determine court document dates regarding an appeal with Judge Thomas Doerr.

In the initial plans for the development, Great Living had proposed building 113 homes on 39 acres of land in the township.

Members of the Butler Township Zoning Hearing Board voted unanimously in a meeting in early April against Great Living LLC's appeal of the township zoning office's determination that the zoning ordinance allows 100 homes in the 39.17-acre development at the corner of South Duffy and Highfield roads.

After that hearing, Jerry Oliver, Great Living owner, said he was considering appealing the decision to Common Pleas Court.

The Butler Township commissioners approved a 100-home Highfield Trails development at a meeting April 19. The developer left 13 acres in the subdivision left as open space.
