11 Butler County football players to play in annual Frank Varischetti All-Star game
Eleven Butler County-area high school football players will play together in the 11th annual Frank Varischetti All-Star game at Frank Varischetti Field later this month.
Those taking part in the District 9 exhibition for the South team — which will take place 7 p.m. June 26 —include Karns City’s Hunter Scherer, Sean Slaughenhoupt, CJ Emrick, Kolby Blair, Owen Heginbotham and Carter Farren; Moniteau’s Brendin Sankey; and Union/A-C Valley’s Colbin Elliott, Aidan Fox, Trent Fleming and Max Gallagher.
During last year’s regular season, Gallagher ran for 1,081 yards, which trailed only Mars’ Ayden Yocum (1,731) on the Butler Eagle’s statistics rankings.
Coached by Central Clarion’s Dave Eggleton, they will take the field alongside players from Brookville, Central Clarion, Keystone and Redbank Valley to take on the North team, which consists of players from Brockway, Bucktail, Cameron County, DuBois, Kane, Otto-Eldred, Port Allegany, Punxsutawney, Ridgway, Smethport and St. Marys.
The North team will be coached by Cameron County’s Ryan Neyman.
Before the game, $24,000 worth of scholarships will be awarded to players by game sponsors.
