Cranberry Twp. supervisors vote on property acquisition for potential recreational use
CRANBERRY TWP — At Thursday’s agenda preparation meeting, the board of supervisors voted unanimously in favor of acquiring a 10-acre property for potential future recreational use.
The property is located at Rochester Road and Thompson Park Drive and will be purchased from Divine Grace Parish’s St. Ferdinand Church.
A softball field currently occupies the property, which is situated on the opposite side of the church.
The cost of acquisition is $4.1 million, according to Dan Santoro, township manager.
The decision also authorized Bruce Hezlep, chair of the board, to execute all necessary closing documents, including signing the deed on behalf of the township as grantee.
At the meeting, Santoro said, “We’ve been moving toward this action for months now.”
Santoro said the property will be subject to the ad hoc Recreation, Arts and Cultural Committee, which is in charge of a planned engagement center.
“We’re looking at it for that also in the long term, but we can never have enough property from a recreational perspective,” said Santoro.
Karen Newpol, vice chair of the board, was absent for the vote.
