Samuel Montest

Samuel “Sam” Montest, 97, passed away on May 16 in Tampa, Fla.

Sam is survived by his children, Robert E. Montest (Lillian,) Linda J. Day (John) and Sandra P. Montest-Hoff; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret V. Montest (née Eaton), his six sisters and two brothers.

Sam was born Nov. 3, 1917, in Baltimore to Madeline and Eugene. Sam worked for U.S. Steel Corp. for 30 years and the Pennsylvania Laborers Union for 10 years.

He was married to Margaret for 66 years, a member of the Harrisville Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church and a Grove City resident for 50 years.

Sam loved most of all his family. He was an accomplished fisherman, hunter, gardener and outdoorsman. He enjoyed watching and feeding the birds.

This is a poem found at one of his favorite fishing spots:

I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day,

And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray,

When in the Lord's great landing net and peacefully asleep,

That in His mercy I be judged big enough to keep

Any donations in his honor may be made to Meals on Wheels-Grove City.

MONTEST — A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.Arrangements for Samuel “Sam” Montest, who died Saturday, May 16, 2015, were handled by the Blount and Curry Funeral Home.
