State police seize suspected heroin during traffic stop

BUFFALO TWP — State police seized 131 stamp bags of suspected heroin during what appeared to be a routine traffic stop Tuesday night on Route 28, authorities said.

Daniel P. Findley, 33, of Cherry Tree, Indiana County, was pulled over around 8 p.m. after a trooper noticed the brake lights on his car were not working while he traveled northbound on the highway in Buffalo Township, according to police.

Findley, while speaking to the officer, allegedly admitted that he had drug contraband underneath the driver's seat. Police said they searched the vehicle and turned up 131 glassine bags of suspected heroin.

A drug recognition expert subsequently determined Findley was impaired on drugs, according to court documents. He was taken to ACMH Hospital in Armstrong County for a blood draw. Lab results are pending.

On Wednesday, District Judge Wayne Seibel arraigned Findley on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Additionally, he is charged with driving a vehicle with unsafe equipment and careless driving.

Findley is free on $6,000 unsecured bond while awaiting his preliminary hearing Wednesday at the office of District Judge Sue Haggerty in Saxonburg.
