Drug take-back expands to e-cigs

Cranberry Township’s annual drug take-back event is expanding to include vape pens and e-cigarettes for the first time.

Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 in the rear parking lot of the municipal center, the event will offer a safe way to dispose of unused, unwanted or expired medications.

Residents can dispose of medications in the original container or by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into the disposal box. They are asked to remove any identifying information if disposing in the original container.

Batteries must be removed from vape pens or other e-cigarette devices.

Liquid products such as cough syrup should remain sealed in their original container with a tightly sealed cap.

Intravenous solutions, injectables and syringes will not be accepted due to potential hazard posed by bloodborne pathogens.

The free Drug Take-Back event is hosted by the Cranberry Township Police Department and sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Social distancing measures will be in place.
