Mary Sennholz, 103, of Grove City passed away Sunday morning in her home.

Mary was born in Lewistown on Nov. 2, 1913, to W. R. and Mazzie Homan.

She married Dr. Hans F. Sennholz on July 25, 1954. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2007.

She graduated from Altoona School of Commerce in 1932. Mary worked as an executive secretary and court reporter for the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Following the start of World War II in 1941, she was offered a position in Washington, D.C., in the executive office of the president, where she managed a pool of secretaries, working with senators, congressman and high officials in the government. She served under Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman.

In 1947, she joined the Foundation for Economic Education in Irvington-on-Hudson, N.Y. While working in New York and studying at New York University, she met her husband.

The couple moved to Grove City when her husband accepted a professorship at Grove City College in 1956.

Mary studied piano and organ her entire life. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served as organist and choir director. She belonged to most of the women's clubs in Grove City and served them in various capacities. She remained active playing the piano daily.

Mary is survived by a son, Robert (Lyn) Sennholz of Grove City; two grandsons, Roland and Emil Sennholz; and a brother, Paul Wilson Homan, of Springs Mills, Pa.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by two half-sisters and a half- brother.

SENNHOLZ — Visitation for Mary Sennholz, who died Sunday, June 18, 2017, will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.A local funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 819 Columbia Ave., Grove City.A funeral service will also take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda Church, Spring Mills, Pa., with the family receiving friends at the church at 10 a.m. until the time of service.
