James Richard “Skip” Shaffer Jr.

James Richard “Skip” Shaffer Jr., 75, of Fort Myers, Fla., passed away Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, in his home surrounded by family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Skip was born in Butler to James and Sara Shaffer on Oct. 10, 1942.

He attended Butler High School and went on to graduate from Allegheny College with a B.A. in history, where he was a member of the ROTC and the varsity swim team.

Skip was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force, earning the rank of captain.

Skip worked in sales for General Electric, Nordic Controls and Saftronics.

He enjoyed golfing, cooking, reading and spending time with family, and friends. He was an honorable, loving, kind and generous man, who touched all who knew him. He will be dearly missed by all.

Skip is survived by his loving wife, Lori; his children, Kimberly and Daniel; his mother, Sara; his brothers, Peter and William; a son-in-law, Michael Antonelli; his grandchildren, William and Katherine; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Judy; and his father, James.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
