Richey nabs Republican nod for lieutenant governor
Jason Richey beat John Ventre in the race to be the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor by a significant margin.
Richey took just shy of 65% of the vote compared with Ventre’s slightly more than 35%, according to unofficial results available Tuesday night on the Pennsylvania Department of State website.
Richey will join Republican gubernatorial nominee Stacy Garrity on the ticket heading into this November’s general election against incumbents Gov. Josh Shapiro and lieutenant governor candidate Lt. Gov. Austin Davis, both of whom are running for their second term.
Going into the primary, Richey, an energy sector attorney from Allegheny County, had Garrity’s endorsement.
Ventre, a retired UPS executive from Washington County, positioned himself as a party outsider running as a more conservative alternative to Richey.
The primary contest between the two was the only statewide contest on Tuesday’s ballot.
