Slippery Rock softball’s Sophia Lawrence hits walk-off homer in District 10 play-in win: Roundup
Sophia Lawrence smashed a two-run home run to center field, and Slippery Rock softball walked off No. 5 General McLane 8-7 Tuesday in the District 10 Class 4A play-in.
Joslyn Korcok (2-for-4) reached with a leadoff double, then her courtesy runner Sophie Hensel on Savannah Smith’s RBI single to right with one out. Lawrence then took a 2-2 pitch for a ride. She finished the day 3-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Smith went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Korcok threw all seven innings in the circle, striking out five. The No. 4 Rockets overcame 12 errors on defense.
They will face top seed Harbor Creek in Thursday’s semifinals at a site and time to be determined.
Lucas Hanson’s line drive to center scored Levi Russell in the sixth inning, proving the only run needed for Harbor Creek to beat No. 4 Slippery Rock 1-0 in the District 10 Class 4A play-in.
Breckon Kitts allowed just one Rockets hit and walked three other hitters. Isaac McCandless nearly matched that effort for Slippery Rock, firing seven innings of six-hit, six-strikeout ball in a tough-luck loss. Casey Darr had SR’s lone hit.
Fifth-seeded Harbor Creek takes on No. 1 Erie Cathedral Prep in Friday’s semifinals at a site and time to be determined.
